Feb 7th, 2010 · A year ago, the U.S. intelligence community's "threat assessment" identified the global financial crisis as the number one near-term threat to national security. This year's assessment found that the global economy less threatening, but it did highlight one notable development: Economic problems in Europe are now more worrisome than in the developing world, a reversal of the pattern of recent years. Mar 2nd, 2009 · Defense Secretary Robert Gates believes the "most worrisome" part of the U.S. war in Afghanistan is actually in Pakistan. That country is often accused of failing to curb the Taliban along the border. After a six-month offensive, Pakistan's military says it has driven the Taliban out of one region in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan. It's an area where the foreign media is banned. But over the weekend, Pakistan's military flew some journalists there.
