Thirty years ago, a Washington lawyer slipped into an Arlington antique store and bought a magnificent rosewood cabinet. It turned out it was once owned by Wallace, and contained his personal collection of 1600 butterflies and insects.

On New Years' Day, they ride their bikes into Lake Michigan. Half a dozen people plunged into a lake so cold they had to break the ice first.

Foster Wallace was known as an explosive writer who cast his work with dark irony in subjects ranging from tennis to politics to mathematics to popular culture.
