The Anchorage Mayor's victory moves Senate Democrats within two seats of a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority. Senator-elect Begich tells Renee Montagne that he won because Alaskans were ready to focus on the future.
Nov 18th, 2008 · At this point Republican incumbent Ted Stevens is behind Democratic challenger Mark Begich by just over a thousand votes. Even if he's able to pull off a victory, Stevens still faces an expulsion vote in the Senate. His Republican colleagues put off a preliminary step toward one Tuesday — waiting to see what happens in Alaska.

Nov 13th, 2008 · The U.S. Senate race in Georgia has yet to be decided. There is a runoff election next month between incumbent Republican Saxby Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin. Neither won more than 50 percent of the vote on Election Day. A Martin victory could help give Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

Nov 10th, 2008 · Remember that iconic World War II photo of the sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square on Victory Day? The nurse returns to the spotlight Tuesday. Edith Shain, now 90, will be honored at New York's Veteran's Day parade. She's pretty sure she's the nurse in the photo. The image doesn't show their faces. And the photographer never got their names. Shain says she didn't know the sailor's name either. He just grabbed her and kissed her.

Over the weekend The Audacity of Hope and Dreams from My Father were the hottest sellers at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. Amazon actually ran out of hardcover and paperback editions of Audacity of Hope. While you wait, the online retailer lists more than two dozen other books out about the president-elect.
