Oct 29th, 2008 · Tom Salmon is running for re-election as Vermont's state auditor. Salmon is serving in Iraq with the U.S. Naval Reserve. He isn't allowed to participate in his campaign because of a Pentagon ban on politicking by active duty members of the military. Steve Zind of Vermont Public Radio reports.

Oct 16th, 2008 · After PBS anchor Jim Lehrer moderated the first presidential debate, the folks at Ben and Jerry's shipped over a new flavor, made in his honor: "Chocolate Lehrer Cake." The ice cream team also came up with other politically inspired treats: "Baracky Road" and "McCandy Cane." They're only available in Vermont. Nothing to do with politics. It's just that this long election season is still too short to market new flavors.

Sep 24th, 2008 · Big power companies in Maryland, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut will be required to buy allowances for every ton of gas their plant emits. The auction of greenhouse gas allowances is part of a plan to start reducing carbon emissions. Four other states—New York, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Delaware, will participate in later auctions.
