Jun 15th, 2007 · Four major Muslim organizations in Germany have banded together in an umbrella group, in the hopes of answering one of the government's complaints: that it has no one to talk to on issues involving integration, religion and combating extremism. The government's response to the group -- that it doesn't represent enough Muslims -- set the stage for little progress at the second meeting this week of a three-year-long discussion among government officials and Muslims in Germany. Islamic groups want mosques to get the same recognition as churches, to be able to teach Islam in public schools, as Catholicism and Protestantism are taught. Some also want girls and boys to be separated for P.E. in schools.
