The restaurant, in a small town near California's Sierra Mountains, is for sale. And an especially clueless thief tried to spend what turned out to be an $8,000 theft of the marked money. Authorities say the man tried to use some of the cash to pay a court fine.

Apr 2nd, 2008 · A thief who stole an X-Box game player in Philadelphia got more than he bargained for when the rightful owner blogged about the theft. Gamers tracked the thief through the Internet and spammed him into submission. The X-Box was anonymously returned.
Feb 25th, 2008 · A thief steals a snowmobile in Arlington Township, Mich., but leaves tracks in the snow that lead straight to his door. The owner followed the trail for 10 miles that went straight to a chop shop, but when police arrived it had already been disassembled.
Feb 6th, 2008 · Michael Millhouse appeared in a photo on the front page of the Lewiston (Idaho) Tribune, putting up holiday decorations. The front page also featured a surveillance image of an unidentified thief. Readers noticed the two photos showed the same guy. Millhouse was sentenced to 30 days' house arrest for stealing a woman's purse.
Nov 30th, 2007 · Irish pub goers surely raised many pints of Guinness to a ruling by the European Parliament not to impose the metric system on Britain and Ireland. Meanwhile, a thief drove into the Guinness brewery in Dublin and drove out with a trailer full of the stuff, including 180 kegs of Budweiser.

So he rigged up an alarm system using string and bells and slept fully dressed in his living room until early Saturday when the bells rang he managed get outside and record the thief's license plate
