American Idol Draws More Votes than President

May 24th, 2007 · The talent contest American Idol picks wanna-be rock stars around the country for a season of song, dance and heartbreak. Jordin Sparks won the sixth-season crown Wednesday night. More than 74 million votes were tallied. There were some 609 million votes for the season -- almost 10 times as many votes President Bush received in the last election, which CNN says was 62 million.

Officer's Death Blamed on '9-11 Lung' Ailment **

Liberia Poised to Name First Female President in Africa

Nov 11th, 2005 · Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the Harvard-educated former finance minister of Liberia, appears destined to become Africa's first elected female leader. With 97 percent of the votes tallied, results announced by the nation's election board give her an unassailable lead, with almost 59 percent of the ballot. But her rival, international soccer star George Weah, claims fraud, and the election commission is investigating. It was the first election since the end of a 14-year civil war that devastated the country.

Elections Conclude Across United States
