Aug 21st, 2008 · Master cellist Bernard Greenhouse, 92, and his 300-year-old Stradivarius cello have been constant companion for the last half century. Greenhouse was a founding member of the legendary Beaux Arts Trio, which plays its final concert at the Tenglewood Festival in Massachusetts.
May 7th, 2008 · Grammy-nominated Philippe Quint recently left his $4 million Stradivarius in a Newark taxi. His driver brought the instrument back. He was so overjoyed, that he gave a private concert for taxi drivers and their families Tuesday as a form of repayment.
Apr 19th, 2005 · In 2002, Hungarian violinist Barnabas Kelemen won the prestigious International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. The prizes included a four-year loan of a 1683 Stradivarius violin. Hear Kelemen perform on the instrument at NPR.
Nov 11th, 2004 · A Stradivarius cello stolen from the principal cellist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic was later found damaged and in a dumpster. Last month, the repaired instrument was returned to its owner. Hear NPR's Renee Montagne.
Jun 24th, 2004 · The Stradivarius stolen from a cellist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic last month and later recovered is getting a makeover this summer. Each and every crack in the $3.5 million instrument is being repaired by a master craftsman, who says the owner won't notice the difference when the restoration is complete. Jun 24th, 2004 · Music commentator Miles Hoffman, a nationally renowned violist, and NPR's Steve Inskeep visit the Library of Congress' small, priceless collection of Stradivarius instruments. Hoffman plays some of the rarest instruments in the collection, including a violin called the "Betts," crafted in 1704 by Antonio Stradivari.
