Chinese-Built Zambian Smelter Stirs Controversy

Jul 31st, 2008 · China is investing heavily in Zambia's Copperbelt Province, building smelters and bringing Chinese workers to the area. The foreign presence has been met with both praise and skepticism as Zambians say the industry is booming, but the Chinese are taking many of the jobs.

U.S. Pollution Law Targets Canadian Smelter

Aug 28th, 2006 · An Indian tribe in Washington state has successfully sued a company whose smelter in Canada is fouling the Columbia River in the United States. The court says U.S. Superfund law applies to foreign polluters, if the pollution affects U.S. territory. The ruling is being appealed.
