Jun 17th, 2008 · Residents of a village in Romania re-elected their mayor even though he had died. The mayor had run the village for almost two decades, but just after Sunday's voting began, he died of liver disease. That news did not deter supporters, who gave him a 23-vote win over a living opponent.

Apr 3rd, 2008 · United Airlines is the latest major U.S. carrier to ground planes due to questions over aircraft safety checks and maintenance. United grounded its fleet of 52 Boeing 777s and canceled 38 flights Wednesday. Among the planes that need to be inspected is the White House press charter plane that flew journalists to Romania for the NATO summit.
