He stands accused of a calculated armed robbery in the United States, and could face life in prison if he's extradited and convicted. Jan 11th, 2006 · The Turkish man who shot Pope John Paul II in 1981 is set to be released from prison in Istanbul Thursday. Mehmet Ali Agca served 19 years of a life sentence in Italy before being pardoned at the pontiff's behest in 2000. He was serving a separate sentence in Turkey for robbery and murder.

Nov 18th, 2005 · Prison reform activist David Ruiz died recently at age 63. Ben Philpott of member station KUT in Austin, Texas, has a remembrance of Ruiz, who went to prison multiple times for aggravated robbery but spent his years in prison educating himself and advocating prison reform.
