Apr 25th, 2006 · Animal-rights groups are suing the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, citing a provision of the Endangered Species Act. It is the first time that the federal law, normally used to protect endangered species in the wild, is being used as an argument to protect the Asian elephants that are part of the circus act.
Mar 14th, 2006 · Closing arguments are heard in PETA vs. Ringling Brothers Circus lawsuit. The animal-rights group says the owner of the circus infiltrated and spied on PETA and other animal-rights groups. Ringling Brothers officials admit they did just that, but they say PETA wasn't harmed by the spying.
