Jan 1st, 2009 · An Army reservist who was deployed to Iraq last year has celebrated the holidays with the Iraqi he credits with keeping him alive. For more than a year, the master sergeant waited for his Iraqi translator to receive a visa to come to the U.S. Now the men and their families have formed a bond on American soil. Dec 14th, 2008 · Jamie Mangan suffered catastrophic injuries when her Humvee ran over an IED near Kirkuk, Iraq. She still suffers from the effects of brain injuries, but she gets support from Rex, the bomb-sniffing German Shepard she thought had died in the blast, and from her husband, the medic who saved Jamie's life.
Nov 27th, 2008 · Eighteen years ago, four dozen Saudi women staged a protest against their country's ban on women driving. For 30 minutes, they drove in a convoy around Riyadh. Though the ban still stands, they say the country has made some progress toward equality for women.
Oct 28th, 2008 · There are many reasons planes can get stuck on airport runways. Add to them: a poodle on the run. That would be Choochy. She evaded authorities at Boston's Logan International Airport for 17 hours. Choochy escaped her kennel Saturday as it was being unloaded after a flight from Detroit. The dog ran in circles chased by several vans, and in turn delayed at least eight flights. Choochy was finally caught Sunday and reunited with her family.

Oct 24th, 2008 · In This Republic Of Suffering, historian Drew Gilpin Faust reveals that the rate of death during the American Civil war was six times that of World War II — a fact which created a shared sense of suffering that helped the nation reunite after the war was over.
