Uganda Rebels Step Up Attacks While Offering Talks *

Jan 3rd, 2006 · In East Africa, the Lord's Resistance Army has made several offers to enter peace talks with Uganda. The LRA is a rebel group that's been terrorizing Northern Uganda for nearly 20 years. Earlier this year, arrest warrants were issued for five top rebel leaders by the International Criminal Court in the Hague. While the rebels have been calling for peace, they also stepped up attacks on civilians and humanitarian convoys.

Resistance Army Leader in Kenya after 'Holy War' **

Nov 12th, 2005 · Alice Lakwena is the spiritual founder of Uganda's Lord's Resistance Army. Although the army has been charged with war crimes, NPR's Eric Westervelt reports Lakwena lives quietly in a U.N. refugee camp in neighboring Kenya.
