Nov 26th, 2008 · The New York Mets will be moving to a new ballpark next spring. Corporate naming rights to the ballpark were sold to Citigroup. Back in better times, the giant bank agreed to pay $400 million over 20 years to call it Citi Field. Now the federal government is bailing out Citigroup. So two New York City Council members are proposing to rename the ballpark: Citi/Taxpayer Field.

Dec 10th, 2007 · Residents of Potsdam, N.Y., have held a bake-off for the past 10 years to raise money for a local food pantry. This year, food manufacturing giant General Mills contacted organizers and told them it owns the word, and only the company can use it. The event's Rose Revesi was not impressed. Still, organizers renamed Sunday's event a "baking contest."

Dec 10th, 2007 · Sunday, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez rolled his country's clocks back by 30 minutes, in a move he says will give early-rising schoolchildren more daylight. The change is the latest in Chavez's effort to revolutionize the country, which he has renamed the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Chavez also redesigned the flag; he is set to launch a new currency next year.

Apr 2nd, 2006 · Alto saxophonist Jackie McLean has died. Coming of age in the shadow of Charlie Parker, McLean mastered that saxophonist's style of bebop and went on to become an early advocate of the free jazz movement of the 1960's. McLean's performing and recording career spanned more than five decades. In 2000, the Hartt School of Music was renamed the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. In 2001, McLean was recognized as a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts. That same year, he was inducted into Downbeat magazine's Jazz Education Hall of Fame. McLean died Friday at his home in Hartford, Conn., after a long illness. He was 73 years old.

Mar 4th, 2005 · In 1967, the Esso Trinidad Tripoli Steelband caught the ear of one of the most popular entertainers of the day: Liberace. The flamboyant pianist was so taken by this new, luminous sound that he took the renamed Trinidad Tripoli Steelband on tour with him for two years.
