Jan 5th, 2007 · A tiny German village is in a tizzy of excitement as it prepares for the return of its famous storks. Last summer, the lone stork couple in Gummern, Germany, had six babies -- an event that had not happened in more than a generation, as reported in The Washington Post. Michele Norris talks with Christoph von Rohr, whose family lives across the lane from the remaining white stork nest. He says the babies put the village of 35 people on the map. Rohr has been talking to the "stork father" who is assigned to look after the stork population, about the prospect of putting up a pole in his back yard in hopes of providing a new home for a returning pair.
