Lead-acting prizes went to Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played author Truman Capote in Capote, and Reese Witherspoon as country singer June Carter. Brokeback Mountain had a leading eight nominations, but the gay cowboy romance only won one top Oscar, for director Ang Lee.
