Apr 20th, 2007 · The Predator drone aircraft has been one of the most successful, and controversial, tools in Iraq and elsewhere. But while the Predator was designed as a reconnaissance airplane - and later retrofitted with Hellfire missiles - its successor was designed to attack. The MQ-9 Reaper is twice as fast as the Predator, and can carry far more ordinance.

Aug 11th, 2005 · NASA says it will delay Thursday's launch of the Mars reconnaissance orbiter. Problems with the Atlas V rocket carrying the spacecraft couldn't be resolved in time for liftoff. An issue familiar to the crew of the Discovery prompted the scrub: a low-fuel sensor failed to work correctly.

The reconnaissance aircraft first took to the skies in the 1950s, and continues to be a valuable tool for getting real-time information on troop movements and enemy targets.
