Gold-Tipped Cane Goes To Oldest Resident

Dec 28th, 2009 · A 101-year-old woman in Williamstown, Mass., now has one of the famous canes from The Boston Post. The defunct paper sent several hundred gold-tipped canes to New England towns in 1909 as a publicity stunt. Each town gave a cane to its oldest resident. Ten years ago, Hazel Burdick pushed Williamstown officials to find their cane and revive the tradition. They did and now it's hers.

Subway Sandwich Shop Literally Rises At Ground Zero

City Orders Firefighters To Bathe Circus Elephant

Sep 8th, 2009 · Firefighters don't rescue cats out of trees these days. And firefighters on New York's Coney Island didn't like it a bit, when they had to hose down an elephant. The city ordered the firefighters to bathe a circus elephant named Suzie, for a publicity shot. So the firefighters shut down the firehouse for the half hour bath. Luckily, there were no fires.
