Jan 7th, 2009 · Two weeks after one of the nation's worst coal waste accidents, officials in eastern Tennessee are trying to ease public health concerns. About 300 acres of land and water were inundated with coal ash — sludgy residue that spilled from a holding pond at a Tennessee Valley Authority power plant. Officials say the health risk is minor, but some people near the plant are skeptical.

Sep 8th, 2008 · If it happened in the U.S., you might think green polar bears were an early St. Patrick's Day shenanigan. But those bears turned green at the zoo in Tokyo. The Tokyo zoo says the apple-green stain over most of the bears' fur started with an effort to conserve water by changing the bears' pond water less often. That led to more algae, which is difficult to wash out of the bears' thick fur.
Aug 17th, 2007 · American bands have long looked across the pond for inspiration. The Belfast band Romantica has been looking the other way... and even moved to Minneapolis to keep it real. Rooted in Ryan Adams and Jeff Tweedy style alt-country, the band is gaining a following in their new home.
Jun 27th, 2007 · A golf ball only costs a couple bucks, but many golfers just hate to lose one. Count Bruce Burger among them. He knocked his ball into a pond in Venice, Fla. He reached in to get the ball, despite the sign reading: "Beware of Alligator." That's when an 11-foot gator latched onto his arm. Fortunately, the reptile wasn't that persistent. Burger used his free arm to whack the gator until it released him.
