Sep 19th, 2008 · The Iraqi government will be taking over security of Baghdad on Oct. 1 and will also take control of a large group of Sunni paramilitary forces currently securing much of the country. The militia leaders say they were not consulted and that they're not sure the transition will be smooth.

These are largely Sunni paramilitary groups who turned against al-Qaida and allied themselves with U.S. forces. But the Awakening membership mistrusts the Iraqi government.

Drummond denies the allegation. The killings happened in the coal-rich state of Cesar, known for its paramilitary activities.

The news of the apparent collaboration puts passage of a U.S. trade agreement in jeopardy.
Mar 15th, 2007 · Chiquita Brands International will plead guilty to doing business with gunmen in Colombia. Prosecutors said the banana company made $1.7 million in "protection payments" to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, a right-wing paramilitary group linked to some of Colombia's worst massacres. The company will pay $25 million to settle the charges.
