Dec 1st, 2008 · Over the weekend in rural Washington State, there were celebrations in Ariel to recall the country's most famous unsolved hijacking. Thirty-seven years ago, a man known as D.B. Cooper seized a jetliner, received a ransom and parachuted out somewhere over southwest Washington. He disappeared along with most of the $200,000 in cash.
Sep 24th, 2008 · Climbing the highest mountain in the world — forget it. A group of 34 skydivers from 14 nations will attempt a freefall above Mt. Everest. It'll be the first parachute jump over the peak. They'll need extra large parachutes because of the thin air. Weather permitting, they'll dive next week from nearly 500 feet above the summit aiming for a flat zone 17,000 feet below.
Sep 15th, 2008 · The Federal Housing Finance Agency announced Sunday that the former CEOs of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will not walk away with golden parachutes. The agency which regulates — and now manages the two mortgage giants — said it will not allow the former executives to walk away with multi-million dollar severance packages. It didn't say what, if anything, ex-CEOs Daniel Mudd and Richard Syron will take home.
Sep 1st, 2008 · Two skydivers were supposed to parachute into a stadium, carrying the game ball for North Carolina's first game of the season. The weather was cloudy, but as soon as they saw a football stadium, they jumped — into the wrong one. They arrived at the stadium of North Carolina's rival, Duke.

May 16th, 2008 · A former French army colonel is heeding an old piece of advice: If at first you don't succeed, try again. Michel Fournier will make another attempt at a free-fall record. He plans to skydive from higher than most planes fly — almost 25 miles above ground — and fall for 10 minutes before deploying his parachute.
Apr 28th, 2008 · Leonardo da Vinci had his eye on the future. Among his designs: the ideal city, a self-propelled car and a parachute. A Swiss amateur parachutist last weekend became the first person to successfully make it to the ground using that parachute.
Jan 29th, 2008 · The chief executive of the ailing mortgage lender Countrywide Financial says he will forfeit more than $37 million in severance pay and perks that were part of a retirement package. The Securities and Exchange Commission is probing Angelo Mozilo's sales of company stock.
