Ecologists have complained about development of the oil field. But most industry analysts see the move as a way to put more pressure on Shell to give Russian oil companies a share in the $20 billion investment. Gregory Feifer reports.

Aug 7th, 2006 · Suspected pipeline corrosion is forcing British Petroleum to shut down production in Alaska's Prudhoe Bay oilfield. The emergency shutdown will remove about 8 percent of daily U.S. crude production, driving oil prices higher.
