Jan 9th, 2009 · Community outrage erupted onto the streets of Oakland this week in the aftermath of the fatal police shooting of Oscar Grant, an unarmed black man, by a white officer. Rioters torched city property and caused extensive damage to neighborhood businesses and parked cars. When the dust settled, at least 100 were in police custody.

Nov 13th, 2008 · A judge has cleared a Portland, Ore., man of indecent exposure after his June arrest for riding his bicycle naked at nighttime through his neighborhood. Nov 12th, 2008 · Sacramento last week elected its first black mayor, former NBA star Kevin Johnson. The 42-year-old businessman beat a two-term incumbent by running on a platform of change. At the same time, the non-profit organization Johnson founded, which works to revitalize poor neighborhoods with charter schools and redevelopment projects, is being investigated for misuse of public funds.
