Pirates Commandeer Busy Shipping Lane

Nov 19th, 2008 · India's navy says one of its warships patrolling the Gulf of Aden battled Somali pirates and destroyed one of their so-called motherships — a supply vessel that helps the pirates operate in open water. The attack occurred Tuesday, the same day Somali pirates hijacked two more ships. Australia's Navy All But Shuts Down In December

Nov 18th, 2008 · Most of the sailors in Australia's navy have been ordered ashore for two months leave starting next month. They've been ordered to take that long — paid — holiday leave because Australia's navy has been left with too few hands on deck, as would-be sailors find other jobs. Skeleton crews will provide security during the holiday break. Australia's defense minister says the navy hopes to increase recruitment by becoming something no navy has ever been: family friendly.

High Court Sides With Navy In Sonar Dispute *

His memoir "Faith of My Fathers" recalls his liaison with a Brazilian fashion model. It happened 51 years ago, when he was in the Navy. He never named her, but Brazilian reporters tracked her down. Maria Gracinda Teixeira says McCain was romantic and a "good kisser."
