Jan 6th, 2009 · Heavy clashes on the outskirts of Gaza City between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants on Tuesday left more than a dozen people dead as the Israeli navy pounded shore positions and ground forces pushed slowly into heavily populated urban areas of the Gaza Strip.
Nov 19th, 2008 · India's navy says one of its warships patrolling the Gulf of Aden battled Somali pirates and destroyed one of their so-called motherships — a supply vessel that helps the pirates operate in open water. The attack occurred Tuesday, the same day Somali pirates hijacked two more ships. Nov 18th, 2008 · Most of the sailors in Australia's navy have been ordered ashore for two months leave starting next month. They've been ordered to take that long — paid — holiday leave because Australia's navy has been left with too few hands on deck, as would-be sailors find other jobs. Skeleton crews will provide security during the holiday break. Australia's defense minister says the navy hopes to increase recruitment by becoming something no navy has ever been: family friendly.
Nov 13th, 2008 · The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Navy over its use of sonar in submarine-hunting exercises off the coast of Southern California. By a 5-4 decision, the nation's highest court said the military training commands a higher priority.

Oct 8th, 2008 · Environmental advocacy groups say the Navy is required to adopt steps to minimize damage mid-frequency sonar causes to whales and dolphins. The president has gotten around the requirement by suspending environmental laws in the name of national security.

Sep 23rd, 2008 · We reported last week that political candidates in Brazil changed their names. Several Brazilians are running under the name Barack Obama. Now John McCain gets equal time. His memoir "Faith of My Fathers" recalls his liaison with a Brazilian fashion model. It happened 51 years ago, when he was in the Navy. He never named her, but Brazilian reporters tracked her down. Maria Gracinda Teixeira says McCain was romantic and a "good kisser."
