GM Won't Unveil Buick At L.A. Auto Show

Nov 12th, 2008 · General Motors is scaling back its plans for next week's Los Angeles Auto Show. Originally, the company was going to unveil a new Buick. Executives were going to meet reporters. But reporters are already writing about GM. The company has lost more than $20 billion this year. It's asking for an emergency government bailout. So, executives figured, maybe they should wait to unveil the new Buick. They're saving it for Detroit's auto show in January.

GM Asks Government For $10B

Oct 28th, 2008 · General Motors is asking the U.S. government to buy $10 billion in equity investment. It would be an unprecedented rescue package in support of a merger between GM and Chrysler. The government funding would include roughly $3 billion in exchange for preferred stock in the merged automaker.

Economy Forces GM To Slow Corvette Production

Sep 16th, 2008 · General Motors has announced that it is slowing production of its iconic sports car. It cites the bad economy for the move. GM will shut down for a week, the factory in Bowling Green, Ky., where the Corvette is made. When it reopens, workers will turn out only 15 Corvettes and hour. That's down about three cars from the current production schedule.

Automakers Sputter In U.S. But Cruise Overseas
