Oct 3rd, 2008 · The Athens, Ga., band Of Montreal, led by frenetic frontman Kevin Barnes, has built a reputation on meticulously crafted, synth-driven psych-pop, with flamboyant production and gleeful sonic flourishes. Of Montreal brings this musical spectacle to Washington, D.C., for a full concert, webcast live at NPR.org on Oct. 9. The performance will begin streaming online at approximately 10 p.m. ET.

Jul 14th, 2008 · Native Esperanto speaker Boris-Antoine Legault, president of the Quebec Esperanto Society, joins us from the 7th Esperanto Congress of the Americas in Montreal.
May 31st, 2008 · John Lennon scribbled the lyrics to his anti-Vietnam War song "Give Peace a Chance" on a piece of cardboard during his bed-in protest in Montreal in 1969. At the protest, the Beatle befriended a doe-eyed teenager named Gail Renard, and eventually gave her the handwritten lyrics. The teenager, now all grown up, is preparing to auction off the lyrics, which are estimated to sell for up to a half-million dollars. She talks with Guy Raz.
Dec 24th, 2007 · Jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, who grew up in Montreal and called Canada home for his whole life, has died at the age of 82. He led the Oscar Peterson Trio for much of the 1950s and collaborated with jazz luminaries Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Milt Jackson and others.
Nov 12th, 2007 · Creating a hybrid genre can be a risky undertaking, but Montreal's Josh Dolgin, also known as Socalled, successfully works to modernize Klezmer sounds by adding hip hop and classic funk styles. The young accordion player says the technique introduces people to traditional music associated with Jewish cultural history.
Aug 17th, 2007 · Earlier this year, the five-piece band known as the National toured as the opening act for the Arcade Fire, a Montreal band with a thundering orchestral sound. The National has orchestral ambitions of its own; its fifth album Boxer uses lush strings, clunky old pianos and assorted brass instruments to create odd, image-rich nighttime music.
