As reported by The New York Times , new data about evictions in Milwaukee, Wis., shows that women in black neighborhoods are twice as likely as male tenants to be kicked out of their homes. University of Wisconsin sociologist Matthew Desmond talks about the study. And Clarissa Adams shares her very personal story about being evicted. Adams was one of the people Desmond profiled in his research.

DNA Mix-Up Kept Suspected Serial Killer Free

Oct 8th, 2009 · In Milwaukee, police say a mislabeled DNA sample made it possible for a suspected serial killer to avoid arrest for more than a decade. The error revealed a gaping hole in Wisconsin's DNA data bank and is spurring state officials to gather and verify thousands of DNA samples they thought were already in the system. In all, as many as 12,000 samples may be missing.

Wisconsin Faces Huge Jobless Insurance Fund Deficit

Wisconsin has been borrowing money since February to pay jobless claims. It's estimated that the state's unemployment insurance fund will have a $2 billion deficit by the end of 2010. New MATVs Designed To Reduce IED-Related Deaths

Oshkosh Defense won a multi-billion dollar Pentagon contract to build 4,300 MATVs to be flown to Afghanistan in the coming weeks.

Did Missing DNA Thwart Hunt For Serial Killer?

Sep 11th, 2009 · Police in Milwaukee have arrested a suspect in the killings of at least seven women over 21 years, many of them prostitutes. Walter E. Ellis was taken into custody after police linked DNA from his toothbrush to samples taken from two victims. But DNA might have led to his arrest sooner had a sample been on file as it was supposed to be.

Milwaukee Police Say DNA Links Man To 9 Slayings

Sep 8th, 2009 · Authorities say Walter E. Ellis, 49, has been linked by DNA to the deaths of nine women killed between 1986 and 2007 on the city's north side. Ellis has been charged in the deaths of two of the nine women, and more charges are expected this week.
