Sep 5th, 2007 · The wreckage of the submarine USS Grunion may have been located off the coast of Alaska. Bruce Abele's father, Lt. Cdr. Mannert L. "Jim" Abele, was lost along with his crew of 70 people in the submarine during World War II. Abele and his brothers financed a search for the sub.

Aug 26th, 2006 · The USS Grunion disappeared in July 1942, leaving 70 American families in grief. Researchers, funded by one of the sons of skipper Mannert L. "Jim" Abele, say they may have found the sub in the Bering Sea. Charles Homans of member station KIAL in Unalaska reports.
