The investigation is described in a series of e-mails concerning Charles Brady, who apparently killed himself in July 2006.

The ruling said the federal government must have a warrant before it can search through stored e-mails. Previously, the government took the liberty of reading stored e-mails because it was too hard to get a search warrant for an e-mail while it's in transmission.
