Jun 15th, 2006 · Professor Shuji Nakamura from the University of California, Santa Barbara, was awarded the $1.2 million Millennium Technology Prize for inventing blue, green and white LEDs and a blue laser. The prize, which is backed by the Finnish government, was awarded for the second time (it's biennial) since it was established in 2002.

Jan 27th, 2005 · Scientists have figured out a way to make to make light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, (those little winking lights on your stereo) the light source of the future. With no glass and no filament, LED bulbs can last for 30 years or more. And they can be installed in a variety of places.
