Dec 6th, 2008 · Hurricane Ike crashed into Galveston Island in September and it's been a slow process of rebuilding ever since. Many of Galveston's downtown Strand businesses still haven't reopened but they're trying to ... just in time for this weekend's annual Dickens on the Strand celebration. Nov 18th, 2008 · It's been more than two months since Hurricane Ike smashed the upper coast of Texas. Galveston was ground zero. The city has asked Congress for more than $2 billion in assistance. But that was before a new cyclone of bad economic news blew in last week.

Oct 2nd, 2008 · Across the country, homes are going cheap. In Saginaw, Mich., one just sold on eBay. The winning bid came from Joanne Smith of Chicago. The price: $1.75. In Texas, Cissie Owen has found her beach cabin. She thought Hurricane Ike destroyed it. Turns out the storm surge picked it up, moved it across the highway, and deposited it completely intact. Owen calls it a "feisty little cabin." She has no plans to move back in.
