Oct 29th, 2007 · Celebrated country singer Porter Wagoner dies at 80. He had been hospitalized for lung cancer. Wagoner joined Nashville's Grand Ole Opry in 1957 and 10 years later he hired a 21-year-old Dolly Parton as his duet partner. Wagoner was known as much for his wardrobe as his music.

Nov 12th, 2005 · DeFord Bailey was one of the first stars of the Grand Ole Opry, and was also one of its only black stars. In 1941, he was fired and went into the shoeshine business. This month, Bailey will finally be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Nov 24th, 2000 · Lost and Found Sound today honors the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry with a story about WSM radio in Nashville, where the Opry got its start, and the Pan American passenger train. The regular passing of the Pan American was broadcast on WSM. And the train inspired singer/songwriter Deford Bailey, who performed on the night the Opry got its name.
