Environmentalists and makers of so-called smart meters are convinced that's the case. They say if consumers could see in real time how much power they're using, they'd conserve more. But some behavioral economists say no way. They say electricity is so cheap that real-time information might lead people to run their lights and gadgets even more.

Dec 4th, 2009 · Ball State University is constructing the largest geothermal heating and cooling system in the country — and environmentalists are watching it closely. The university plans to use more than 660 acres to heat and cool nearly 50 buildings, and phase out its coal boilers. If the project is successful, officials say it will cut the university's emissions in half.

The die-off troubles environmentalists and business owners. The number of tourists checking out the fall foliage is down this year — partly due to the aspen die-off.
Sep 9th, 2009 · U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy denied a request by environmentalists and animal welfare groups to stop the hunts in Idaho and Montana, saying plans to kill more than 20 percent of the estimated 1,350 wolves in the two states would not cause long-term harm to the species.
