Insurance Bonuses: Arguing For Tontines

Feb 27th, 2010 · People between the ages of 19 and 29 make up a third of all uninsured Americans under retirement age. And for many of them, that's a choice. But that puts a strain on the health-care system. Host Guy Raz talks to Tom Baker, a University of Pennsylvania law professor who's proposing a 19th-century solution to this very 21st-century problem: tontines. The health insurance policies would pay a cash bonus to people who buy insurance and then don't use it. The practice was outlawed 100 years ago.

Goldman, JPMorgan CEO Stock Bonuses Total $25M

CEO Lloyd Blankfein is getting a $9 million stock bonus and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon received a nearly $16 million stock bonus for 2009, it was disclosed Friday. The bonuses will be subject to restrictions aimed at countering criticism over lavish pay at banks.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Gets $17 Million, No-Cash Bonus

Feb 5th, 2010 · Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, is one of the biggest of the big dogs on Wall Street. So a lot of people were waiting to see what his "number" would be, his 2009 bonus. The wait is over; he will get a bonus valued at around $17 million according to company filing with the SEC. But instead of it being all or partly in cash, it will be in stock and options.

BofA Reports Billion-Dollar Quarterly Loss

Oct 16th, 2009 · Bank of America on Friday said it lost a billion dollars last quarter. It said unemployment and underemployment continue to hurt customers' ability to pay back their loans, such as credit card and mortgages. On Thursday, the bank's embattled CEO Ken Lewis accepted a government request to get no salary or bonus for 2009, and to pay back a million dollars he's received so far this year. Lewis plans to step down at the end of the year.
