We Apologize In Advance: A Chopin-oply Of Chopuns

Mar 2nd, 2010 · All day today, the staff at NPR Music has been consumed with finding new ways to rework composer Frederic Chopin's name. It all started because this year marks the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth. NPR Music is celebrating the occasion with a series of live performances, interviews and essays, and someone mentioned that we were in a state of Chopin-demonium from all of our exhaustive coverage, followed by the appropriate groans.

No Fear Of Flying? Makes Perfect Sense, Experts Say

You've Never Heard 'Loveless'?!

Dec 15th, 2009 · The most appropriate word I could use to define Loveless is dense. It's hard to crack, hard to get behind the wall of noise and find emotion or passion in the music. There's a stoicism about it that makes it difficult to connect with. Not being able to decipher the lyrics, I looked them up in hopes of finding something to grab onto, but I just wasn't impressed. I suppose I wanted more poetry and depth somewhere under all the fuzz.

Intel: Al-Qaida Down, Taliban Rising

Oct 22nd, 2009 · The debate over an appropriate U.S. strategy in Afghanistan hinges, in part, on differing assessments of the Taliban's relations with al-Qaida. The aggressive U.S. pursuit of al-Qaida has hampered its operations. But there is a counterargument: The Taliban has grown stronger, wealthier and more radical, and may now be disposed to offer more support to al-Qaida.
