Atlanta's Pink Pig Brightens Spirits, 55 Years On

Edmund Hillary, First Atop Everest, Dead at 88 *

Jan 11th, 2008 · Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to stand atop Mount Everest, died in Auckland, New Zealand. He was 88. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, his Sherpa guide, were the first to conquer the world's highest mountain in 1953.

Climber Edmund Hillary, Everest Pioneer, Dies at 88

Jan 10th, 2008 · The first man to summit Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary, has died. He was 88. In 1953, Hillary and his team reached the mountain's south peak. He and sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the only two to make the summit. Hillary's friend and fellow climber David Breashears says Hillary dedicated much of his life to supporting the Sherpas.

Russia Loses Two Men of the Cold War Era

Nov 3rd, 2007 · Two figures who played pivotal roles in the Cold War died this past week. Alexander Feklisov died in Moscow at 93; he was the KGB handler of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, executed as spies in 1953. And Russian choreographer Igor Moiseyev, who brought his folk dance troupe to the Metropolitan Opera house in 1958, died Friday at the age of 101.
