Nov 16th, 2007 · A fighter plane from World War II is uncovered just yards away from a beach in Wales. The American P-38 was flying a practice mission in 1942. Something went wrong with the fuel supply and the pilot made an emergency landing in the surf. He walked away leaving the plane behind.

Aug 26th, 2006 · The USS Grunion disappeared in July 1942, leaving 70 American families in grief. Researchers, funded by one of the sons of skipper Mannert L. "Jim" Abele, say they may have found the sub in the Bering Sea. Charles Homans of member station KIAL in Unalaska reports.

Feb 19th, 2005 · In 1942, Pharmacist's Mate Wheeler Lipes saved the life of a fellow crewman aboard the submarine USS Seadragon. With no formal surgical training, Lipes removed the man's appendix using tools improvised from bent spoons. He's finally being recognized for his ingenuity.
