Mar 27th, 2008 · Thomas Edison wasn't the first person to record sound. A French man named Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville actually did it earlier. He recorded someone singing in 1860 and now a group of researchers have figured out how to play it. They are presenting it publicly for the first time on Friday at Stanford University.

John Feinstein discusses the British Open golf tournament, which started Thursday in St. Andrews, Scotland. The famed golf championship is the oldest in the world, dating back to 1860. Feinstein says the course requires players to engage in what he calls "hit-and-run" golf.

A new book re-examines the Cooper Union speech credited with propelling Lincoln to the White House.
